Call for Submissions
BathHouse Journal is seeking creative work for its forthcoming issue, #24.
Our theme for Issue #24 is Re(define), focusing on innovative, hybrid, and interdisciplinary creative works. What happens when a person, a creative work, or an idea fits into multiple categories and defies established definitions?
We are looking for:
- creative writing that experiments with form or invents new forms.
- creative writing that (re)mixes or (re)defines genres (poetry, fiction, nonfiction, etc.).
- art that mixes two or more artistic mediums (creative writing, visual art, music, dance, etc.) and can be presented digitally.
- This includes comics, short films, and visual poetry.
- creative writing mixed with technology (including digital experimentation, new media, and creative coding).
- creative writing that is interactive in innovative ways.
We especially are open to work that addresses identity (including topics related to disability, gender, race, ethnicity, belonging, challenging stereotypes, and contesting dominant narratives).
We are also interested in environmental interventions (including ecopoetics). How might our work address climate change, environmental justice, or other topics related to the environment?
Collaborations between creators are welcome. Please note this in your submission.
Creative work in languages other than English needs to include an English translation.
All creative work must engage with text in some way.
BathHouse Journal is an online, hypermedia journal curated, edited, and overseen by the graduate Creative Writing program of Eastern Michigan University’s English Department. With a focus on interdisciplinary and hybrid arts especially emphasizing language innovation, BHJ seeks to present works that upend convention and blur the lines of form and genre.
