BHJ is an online, hypermedia journal curated, edited, and overseen by the graduate Creative Writing program of Eastern Michigan University’s English Department. With a focus on interdisciplinary and hybrid arts especially emphasizing language innovation, BHJ seeks to present works that upend convention and blur the lines of form and genre.
BHJ has a metamorphic character that reflects its current graduate editor’s and advisory board’s artistic sensibilities and their engagement with culture and the times.
BathHouse takes its name from the 19th-century sanatoriums, bathhouses, and mineral water wells that flourished in Ypsilanti, Michigan. Until truth-in-labeling laws were passed, the “foul-smelling” waters of the Atlantis well were bottled and shipped nationwide as a cure for 33 disorders of the blood.
BHJ regularly calls for open submissions nationally and internationally when preparing each issue. Please review our submission page for the current call status and guidelines for submitting work.
